Crowd funding websites are a constant source of strange and futuristic sneaker projects, like this ambitious one from Shiftwear that uses e-paper on sneakers to let the wearer change the look of the shoe at a moment's notice.

The campaign, which smashed its goal for money raised, shows off three different silhouettes, which will be outfitted with materials allowing for animations and static images to be displayed across the uppers. The silhouette themselves are rather plain, but it's hard to ignore the potential of putting any given image on your sneakers. The images can be changed with a mobile app designed for the project.

The tech involved means that the shoes don't come cheap – the low model is the most affordable pair among them at $1,500.

While they've reached their funding goal and thus should actually be put into production, these sneakers won't ship until fall, 2016.
