Poll // If The Heat Win The Finals, Do You Want Nike To Release A Championship Soldier 7?
words // Zac Dubasik
The story of the LeBron 11 has been well documented this season. Its time on the court – at least on LeBron’s feet – has been brief. And while he hasn’t exactly come out and said it, LeBron’s constant switching out mid-game has implied he isn’t a big fan of the shoe’s performance.
This has presented an interesting situation for Nike as well as LeBron. It’s obviously a bad look for the highest profile athlete on their roster to avoid his signature shoe. But LeBron deserves some respect for putting his game above his marketing. And much as Nike would like him to wear his flagship shoe, LeBron has opted for his team model time and time again, at the biggest moments of the season.
The Finals are finally here, and if this trend continues, chances are we’ll be seeing LeBron in the Zoom Soldier 7 for much of the series. And that presents a dilemma if the Heat are able to pull off a three-peat.
For the past two titles, we’ve seen Nike release Championship Packs featuring PE 9s and 10s LeBron wore during the Finals. But what if he doesn’t wear the 11? Would Nike actually acknowledge the fact he avoided his signature model by releasing a Finals version of the Soldier 7? Would such a release have the same kind of interest that the past two Championship packs have had?
There’s still a major hurdle to clear before this even becomes an issue: the Heat have to beat a Spurs team that’s improved since pushing them to 7 games last season. There’s a very real possibility that the LeBron 11 will actually get some Championship shine – on the feet of Manu Ginobili, who actually wears the shoe.
But if the Heat are to win, what do you think will happen? Do you want Nike to release a Championship Pack featuring the Zoom Soldier 7?
