Nike Turned An Old Hyperdunk Into a Volleyball Shoe

The defining shoe of 'Linsanity' is no more.

by Brandon Richard

Pulling elements from past models to create new silhouettes is commonplace in sneaker design. But rarely do you ever see a brand take an existing shoe, rename is without making significant changes and market it in an entirely new way. But that's exactly what Nike did with the Zoom Volley Hyperspike.

The shoe pictured below looks familiar because it's the former Hyperdunk 2011 Low — a shoe that once stood firmly in the middle of "Linsanity." Now, with minimal changes at the most, it's a women's volleyball shoe. The synthetic base, Flywire support, molded counter and Zoom cushioning are all there.

Nostalgia aside, similar performance demands between the two sports makes some sense of the rebranding. So if you're on the market for a new volleyball shoe or want a shoe that's almost exactly like the Hyperdunk 2011 Low, the Hyperspike is available now for $115 at nike.com.
