Nike Sportswear Celebrates The Arrival of Visible Air For Throwback Thursday

words // Luis Sanchez

Nike Sportswear took us back as part of Throwback Thursday this week with a look at the shoe that started it all for Nike's ever so dependable visible Air cushioning.

First utilized in the Air Max 1 designed by Tinker Hatfield, the idea of visible Air came to life when Tinker was visiting the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The building's exposed architecture sparked Tinker's idea of exposing the inner workings of Air Max, leading to visible Air finally becoming a reality as part of the Air Max 1, or as some may call it, the Air Max '87.

Captioned with "March 26th, 1987 #airmax #tbt," the photo below shared by Nike Sportswear celebrates the official launch of the Air Max 1 and visible Air back in March of 1987.

Did you know the AM1 and visible Air officially launched exactly on March 26th, 1987? If so, were you around for the original launch of the game-changing runner by Tinker Hatfield and Nike?
