Sources say that Nike is close to securing a deal that will give the sportswear giant long-term apparel rights for the NBA.

According to Sports Business Daily, the potential deal will give Nike the rights to put its logos on jerseys, which means that the Swoosh and Jumpman logos could appear on NBA uniforms in the future. The NBA hopes to announce the new deal this spring. Becoming an official partner of the NBA would allow Nike more access to team logos for its product. It would also give the brand a better platform to market its signature athletes in the NBA like LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

Apparently Nike's superior distribution, especially in overseas markets, has helped it land the contract. Having Nike as an apparel partner will only help to grow the NBA's brand on an international level, which is a goal for the ever-growing league.

adidas, the NBA's current outfitter, has elected not to renew its current apparel contract with the league, which expires after the 2016-17 NBA season. For now, adidas logos are only allowed on NBA warm-ups.
