Nike Modifies Twitter RSVP Process
words // Zack Schlemmer
Nike takes another step in battling the dreaded twitter bots, announcing a modification to their twitter RSVP process. Now within the image sent out with each Nike store's RSVP tweet, instead of having one word circled, there will be multiple words circled randomly with only one completely circled, which will be the one to include in your reply. Get all that? Continue reading below for the official statement from Nike.
On the RSVP launch date, a participating Nike store will send an RSVP tweet at a random time, which is your signal that the RSVP process has started for that Nike store. Users must be following the participating Nike store on Twitter to receive the RSVP tweet. This tweet will include a product-specific hashtag that is circled in the attached image. Users must respond with the complete hashtag that is fully circled in the image, not a hashtag with a circle cutting through it.
Once the RSVP tweet is sent, you must send a Direct Message (DM) to the Nike store in order to participate. The DM must include:
- The complete launch product specific hashtag found circled in the image tweeted by the Nike store
- Your first and last name
- Your shoe size (limit one)

Nike really just needs a good captcha system, lol
Bots have a difficult reading a flat image... it's not text. Someone creates a picture with the words in it then merges it flat. The bots will only find colors, basic structure and some general html. At least for now this should work extremely well. Once bots can start literally scanning images the way humans see it, that will change. But for now it's not happening.
tis true, but as good as OCR works nowadays, a determined soul will figure it out eventually, lol
Yes, those OCR's are pretty intelligent! For now though, the variants within the text created by adding circles drive them crazy. They can't distinguish what is going on. I agree it is only a matter of time until someone sets the parameters to include the different variables such as the red circles around entire words/partials and how to perceive the correct response. OCR's have been around since the 80's recognizing characters and they are only getting smarter. Especially since everything is headed to the cloud and operating from one mega brain. It's not taking them nearly as long to learn / upload the new code into their algorithms...
footlocker has it like that... imo good way to prevent long lines and someone getting shot lol
exactly.. sad too
