Nike KYRIE 1 Officially Unveiled

Take your first official look at the Nike KYRIE 1.

by Zac Dubasik

Tonight, Kyrie Irving became part of a very exclusive club, joining LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant as the only Nike Basketball athletes to have a signature shoe. “As a kid, imagining that I’d be in the Nike family with my own shoe was something that seemed almost unattainable,” said Irving. “Now that I’ve received the KYRIE 1 I’m honored to represent Nike and its next generation of players.”

The goal for this first shoe, which was designed by Leo Chang, was to "match Irving's tremendous speed and quickness," according to Nike. Following an extended development process, three key performance features were delivered, including Zoom Air forefoot cusioning, a dynamic 360-degree traction pattern which wraps the shoe's sidewalls, and Hyperfuse construction for both support and breathability.

In addition to the performance elements, signature details were also incorporated, to bring Kyrie's personal touch to his first shoe. His new logo can be found on the tongue, along with handwritten detailing in his own penmanship, including his signature inside the tongue. If you're wondering about the shoe's standout visual detail - the zig-zag pattern on the midsole, there's a story behind that too. It was inspired by the architectural details of the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the country where Irving was born.

Kyrie will be wearing the Dream colorway tomorrow against the Knicks, which was inspired by his dream of waking up on Christmas morning, and lacing up for a basketball game.  You'll be able to pick these up on Dec. 23rd in North America, for a retail price of $110. They're followed by the Deceptive Red edition on Jan. 10th, 2015. Let us know what you think of the KYRIE 1 in the comments. Is this a proper first signature shoe for the young star? Was he deserving of his own model?
