Way back in 1985, Nike released the Sock Racer, an early predecessor of the lightweight, minimal footwear options of today. Perhaps ahead of its time, the unique Sock Racer will make its return next year, albeit in hybrid form, as the new Nike Free Sock Racer.
New images of the Free Sock Racer, unveiled today by Sneaker Freaker, show off the shoe's neoprene upper in an OG-inspired yellow, along with black safari print overlays and support straps. A Nike Free 5.0 sole brings a modern update to the Sock Racer, providing added flexibility and a natural ride.
