In recent months, there's been a lot of news about designers leaving Nike. But what about the fresh faces stepping in to fill their void? One hopeful is Colin Behr, a soon-to-be Iowa State graduate who will soon begin his dream job as a designer for Nike Sportswear.

Behr is graduating with a double major in industrial design and apparel design. He also studied shoemaking at the London College of Fashion, designed three pairs of shoes sold by New Balance as an intern, helped design a Todd Snyder New York parka for Barneys and co-designed a football receiver glove manufactured by Shock Doctor for Cutter’s.

Given a pair of infant Air Jordans when he was a baby, Behr grew up a Michael Jordan fan and was an avid basketball player. However, knee injuries derailed his career on the court. Transitioning away from athletics, Behr picked up his sketchbook, often finding himself drawing sneakers. Once a friend told him about product design during his freshman year in college, he knew he wanted to work in the footwear industry. After five years of stacking his resume with tools that prepared him for the field, Behr was offered a job at Nike.

“It’s been a few months since I accepted the position and it still hasn’t sunk in,” Behr told Iowa State News. “It won't be until I'm standing at the Nike campus entrance or getting my nametag to realize that this is happening. I’m so lucky.”
