Running shoes may be the first thing to come to mind when you think of #Air Max Day but the technology has had nearly as big of a role in Nike’s basketball history. Never has this been truer, not to mention obvious, than with Nike’s Air More Uptempo.

If there was any doubt as to which technology the shoe features, it can clearly be seen on the profile of the shoe, both in the large “AIR” letters which cover the side as well as in the five windows revealing the Air Max bags.

At the time of its release, the shoe was a major hit. The black colorway with white trim was amongst the most popular hoops sneakers of the mid-‘90s. But it’s the “Olympic” colorway that carries the most significance. This was the shoe worn by Scottie Pippen en route to a Gold Medal with the Dream Team 2 in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics.

The sneaker received its first retro in 2010 as a House of Hoops exclusive. It came back again as a general release as part of Nike’s Olympic celebration in 2012, and remains sought after today as evidenced by its average resale price of almost $350.
