The "Cork" LeBron X is a celebration of LeBron James' long journey from Akron, Ohio to NBA Champion, so it's only right that his hometown would get to have a little extra fun with the highly anticipated sneaker release.
Akron-based lifestyle boutique NEXT held it down for locals, not only giving them an opportunity to pick up the limited edition kicks, but offering a unique celebratory LeBron James experience.
With 250 guests and Akron Mayor Donald Plusquellic in attendance, the retail space was transformed into a 24-hour LeBron artifact gallery, showcasing some of his personal memorabilia. On display were old high school photographs supplied by St. Vincent-St. Mary, as well as LeBron's state championship trophy, Gatorade Player of the Year Trophy and NBA championship ring. Showing his appreciation, LeBron donated an autographed copy of Sports Illustrated, which was later raffled off to a lucky ticket holder.
NEXT's launch event was a rousing success, landing the front page of the Akron Beacon Journal and earning praise from LeBron himself through social media.
