The New Balance 990V3 is not the kind of sneaker that usually picks up on lifestyle materials.
Its relative the New Balance 990 has a tendency to do so as it's a more traditional retro shoe, but the 990 doesn't occupy the same space and hence has stayed away from material switch-ups for the most part. It's breaking the rules on this pair though, which fills in the upper's panels with a dark rinse denim.
