Michael Jordan's 97-98 $33 Million Contract Up for Auction

Record setting contract can now be yours.

words // Brandon Richard

In 11 seasons as the best basketball player on the planet, Michael Jordan was fairly compensated for his work just twice. First, for the 1996-1997 season, when the Bulls paid him a little more than $30 million to lead a run toward a fifth NBA championship. Then, they inked him to a record-setting $33 million to close out the second three-peat in 97-98, still the richest single-year deal ever given out in basketball. That would turn out to be his final contract with the Bulls, and if you're on the market for rare MJ memorabilia, it can now be yours.

Dallas-based Heritage Auctions has obtained the 24-page document, which is signed by Michael Jordan several times, along with members of the Bulls' front office. The current bid is set atย $32,500. According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, the consignor originally won the contract at a charity auction in 2000 for less than $1,000.

If you're sitting on an extra $40,000, put in a bid at Heritage Auctions. Bidding ends August 1.
