On Monday, Kobe Bryant signed a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, worth a reported $48.5 million. While some have been surprised that Kobe would demand such a high contract, especially coming off a serious injury, it shouldn't be a shock. Last summer, Bryant said himself that he wasn't willing to take a pay cut.

“For me to sit here and say, ‘Oh yeah, I’m just going to take a huge pay cut. Nah, I’m going to try to get as much as I possibly can.”

With the Kobe 9 set to be unveiled next week, does this extension, which runs through the 2016 season, ensure we'll be seeing a Kobe 10 and 11 as well? Do you think this extension was a smart move for the long-term health of the Lakers franchise? Let us know your thoughts.
