It's been over 30 years since Sports Illustrated's expose on sneaker violence Your Sneakers or Your Life, but killing over kicks is stil something that happens today. Case in point, 19-year-old Willie Daquan Lee of Richmond, VA who was sentenced to 44 years in prison last week for murdering a Virginia Union University student over a pair of Air Jordans. The incident happened on Feb. 23 when Williie Lee shot Kahron M. Lee of Woodbridge, VA in the back as Kahron Lee was trying to run away. Willie Lee plead guilty in June to first-degree murder, robbery and two felony firearms counts. Over 40 years in jail is hefty price to pay for a pair of Js.
