Kenya Nike Flyknit Racer

by Brendan Dunne

Despite being a relatively young line, the Nike Flyknit series already has a number of grail-status entries.

Most of those are either of the HTM persuasion or pairs from the 2012 London Olympics events that the sneakers were rolled out during. This pair, created for Kenyan runner Abel Kirui, falls in the latter category.

For the most part the pair is a straightforward red/black Nike Flyknit Racer, but what makes it special is the unique text across the tongue calling out Kirui's homeland. According to the owner of the sample, djmellowmusic, there's also leather around the ankle. Finally, a volt strip along the midsole further separates this pair from the retail version.

Amazingly, it appears that whoever sold these sneakers didn't even get that much for them. A completed eBay auction shows the sneakers ending at just $250. Sure they're well worn, but that's still a pretty low price to pay for this sort of promo pair.
