Event Recap // Jordan Celebrates CP3 Day in LA
words // Brandon Richard
This past Sunday at the L.A. Fire Academy, the Jordan Brand celebrated CP3 Day and the launch of Chris Paul's new CP3.VI signature shoe. The lightest shoe in the CP3 series to date, the VI features Hyperfuse construction, strategically placed flex grooves for added flexibility, a compression molded Phylon midsole and Chris' beloved Podulon technology in the forefoot. These elements combine to make up a shoe that compliments Paul's quick, elusive and dominant style of plat at the game's most demanding position.
With this being Chris' first full summer and season as part of the Clippers, the Jordan Brand paid tribute to his new L.A. surroundings with the "Nitro Pack," a trio of vibrant CP3.VI colorways inspired by the city's street racing culture.
On to Sunday's event, which started with the Jordan Brand's CP3.VI-stocked Flight Truck parked outside of the L.A. Fire Academy. Attendees, including several local children brought out by Jordan, were given the opportunity to lace up Paul's latest for a series of skill-based challenges. Point guard skills such as dribbling and passing were the focus of the wear-test experience.
Shortly after, guests were granted access to a celebrity basketball game, featuring stars like The Game, Common, Jesse Williams, Hit Boy, Casey Veggies, Anthony Anderson, Pooch Hall, Jalen Rose and Willie McGinest. Comedian Affion Crockett and local icon Clipper Darrell handled hosting duties.
CP3 was in the house for the festivities and was honored by the L.A. Fire Academy at halftime, when it was officially declared CP3 Day in LA. Though attending merely as a spectator, Paul couldn't resist the urge to run with the stars in the second half and ultimately sank the game-winning bucket. The Game's Pooch Hall walked away with MVP honors.
