Numerically speaking the Air Jordan XX3 may have been the most anticipated Air Jordan model of all-time. Throughout his career, Michael Jordan made the number '23' iconic, so the game shoe that carried his number had to be special. With that in mind, only one designer could be called upon to get the job done — the legendary Tinker Hatfield.
Continuing to bring new technology and concepts to the line, the XX3 was the first hoop shoe to incorporate Nike's Considered construction system, engineered to reduce waste with environmentally friendly materials. Michael's initials are stitched throughout the shoe's upper, with additional hand-stitching appearing on the articulated chassis, full-length quilted bootie, carbon fiber shank plate and reinforced quarter panels. Zoom Air and tuned IPS provided the cushioning.
Additional personalized elements included Jumpman and '23' logos on the left and right tongue and an outsole modeled after Jordan's thumbprint.
What people may remember most about the XX3 is a series of limited releases at the designated 'top' 23 locations in the United States. "Titanium" and Black/Red drops raised the bar for modern campouts. The model also released in White/Red, White/Stealth, Black/Stealth and colorways representing MJ's time with UNC, the Bulls and the Wizards.
The final numbered Air Jordan model (until the XX8) was worn on the court by Ray Allen, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Rip Hamilton, Joe Johnson and Mike Bibby.
For Day 23 of the XX8 Days of Flight, the Air Jordan XX3 is presented here in black and neon green with an interesting leather upper.
