For the Air Jordan XX2, designer D'Wayne Edwards was inspired by the F-22 Raptor Fighter Jet. Sharp lines utilized on the XX2 were patterned after the F-22's maneuverability, while the sculpted design and extended heel counter made it lightweight and supportive.
The XX2 featured a triangular quilted pattern on the collar, seamless bootie construction and jet-inspired zig-zag stitching. A titanium-coated shank plate was built into the shoe, as well as titanium lace locks. Visible IPS provided double-stacked Zoom or encapsulated Air cushioning options. A newly introduced chevron pattern provided improved traction on the outsole.
Launched during 2007 All-Star weekend, the XX2 would eventually be made available in fifteen different colorways, including a pair featuring a full basketball leather upper. Additional city-inspired 'PE' colorways representing Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Detroit and Seattle were also released.
Players who wore the XX2 on court included Ray Allen, Joe Johnson, Josh Howard, Rip Hamilton and Carmelo Anthony.
Starting off the final week of the XX8 Days of Flight, the Air Jordan XX2 is presented in the celebratory black and neon green colorway.
