Most player exclusive colorways of Air Jordans stay just that: player exclusive. An exception to that rule though was the 2004 release of the White/University Blue/Metallic Silver Air Jordan 12 Retros.

The colorway was first seen on the feet of the UNC men’s basketball team, where it was worn by players such as Sean May. Carmelo Anthony also had his own version during his rookie season, complete with “Melo” and “15” customization on the heel.

Following a strong positive response to the PE, fans were exited when news hit that the colorway would actually be coming to retail. There was one caveat though: they were released in women’s sizes only. Three months after the women’s release however, men finally got their wish. The identical shoe finally launched on May 15, albeit in limited quantities, in men’s sizes. It's never seen another release, but its high resale price reflects its continued popularity.
