The Cool Greys were the first Air Jordan 3 to get the lifestyle, or LS, treatment. That meant that along with the $10 increase over standard pricing at the time, it came with a set of matching apparel. In this case, the apparel collection focused heavily on the model’s Mars Blackmon/Spike Lee association.

If you’re a fan of the Air Jordan 3, then the launch day of the Cool Greys goes down as one of the biggest in the history of the model. Along with its release, three other AJ3s dropped, including the first Flip 3s, the women’s exclusive Harbor Blues, and the first retro of the OG Fire Reds. That would have made for an expensive day - $535 – if you copped all four. Then again, these days you only get two shoes for that price.

Another point of interest on the Cool Grey 3s is that despite its nickname, the words “cool” and “grey” appear at no point in its colorway. Based on the popularity of the Cool Grey 11s and 9s however, the nickname was adopted regardless of its technical inaccuracy. Whether or not the nickname is appropriate, it's become one of the most popular non-OG colorways in the history of the model.
