With all eyes on Peyton Manning's return to the field this past week, we noticed something a little different about his gear.
Manning, a Reebok pitchman since 2002, reported to Broncos training camp wearing the Nike Zoom Code Elite. This would, at the very least, confirm reports that he is no longer a contracted athlete of Reebok.
But does that mean Manning has become the latest addition to Nike's deep stable of quarterbacks? Not necessarily. Because Nike is the NFL's official outfitter, Manning could simply be wearing their cleats as part of league policy while playing without a shoe contract. However, it's hard to imagine that a brand won't pony up a little cash to have the game's most visible quarterback wearing their cleats — even at this stage of his career.
