Editors' Picks: The Best Sneakers of the Month

The best sneakers of April.

1.

Let's face it, with so many sneaker releases happening in the span of any given 30 days, it's easy for pairs to get lost in the mix. More often than not, the everyday sneaker enthusiast's Saturday pickup is forgotten for next Saturday's pickup. Some reflection at each calendar flip can help cement some of those shoes that deserve to be remembered though. Looking for a refresher on all the great sneakers that came out this month? Here, the Sole Collector staff share what were their favorite sneakers that dropped in the month of April.

Nike Air Huarache “White/Gum”

2.

Gerald Flores, Editor-in-Chief

Springtime usually means it's time to break out the white sneakers. There were a lot of good options that dropped in April, from the white and metallic Air Jordan 5 retro to the "Kareem Campbell" adidas Superstars. But my pick had to be the white/gum Nike Huarache. When I saw them randomly pop up on Finishline.com, I knew that I had to cop. It's just a clean shoe that I'm probably going to wear to death throughout the summer.

New Balance 1400 "Summer White Out"

4.

Brendan Dunne, News Editor

Leather looks hardly ever arrive for the New Balance 1400, so the materials made this pair special from the jump. Add on the screaming white colorway, the excessive reflective white N on the side, and the brash $300 price tag, and I was in. All-white sneakers are a big gamble in New York as they're inevitably gonna get fucked up on your daily MTA journeys, which makes spending way too much money on them all the more exhilarating.

Nike Foamposite Pro “Gym Red”

6.

Steve Jaconetta, Archive and Release Date Editor

While it's easy for me to pick an Air Jordan 11 retro whenever one is released, there was another sneaker that slightly outshined my coveted 11s for this month's top spot. That sneaker was the "Gym Red" Foamposite Pro. What it came down to was the colorway. I love red, and these all-red Foams looked far better in person than I had imagined.

Nike LeBron 12 “Rubber City”

8.

Zac Dubasik, Managing Editor

Let’s be honest. If it weren’t for LeBron James, there probably wouldn’t be a lot of sneakers releasing with themes tied to the culture of Northeast Ohio. But since that’s where I was born, raised, and still residing, the "Rubber City" LeBron 12s had a special significance to me. Looks wise, they’re cool enough. I’m rarely mad at an all-black sneaker. The execution was particularly interesting, managing to be literal while still wearable. But it was the theme itself which put this one over the top for me.

Reebok Question “Michigan State”

10.

Brandon Richard, Staff Writer

The Reebok Question is one of the all-time great hoop shoes, but how often does a re-release of a signature shoe have a memorable moment that isn’t tied to the signature athlete? That happened in 2000, when Mateen Cleaves, Morris Peterson and the Michigan State Spartans won the NCAA Championship in a team-designated white and green pair. Not only did Reebok bring back the colorway this month, but they did so during the NCAA Tournament while the Spartans were making a deep run. The stars aligned, but credit to Reebok for having the plan in place all along.
