Basketball Sneaker Sales Are Up 24% This Year

Basketball sneaker sales are still climbing, and Jordan Brand is leading the wave.

Basketball sneakers accounted for $50 million of the $93 million increase in sneaker sales over the past year.

The news comes from a report by Investors via the NPD Group, which also includes a handful of other interesting stats on recent sneaker sales. Jordan Brand for instance sold $28 million worth of pairs during the week of Thanksgiving this year, and "nearly all of" that giant pile of money came from sales of the Air Jordan 6. This figure speaks to the true exclusivity of Air Jordans, and the impressive feat achieved by Jordan Brand of maintaining an air (no pun intended) of limited status despite selling so many thousand pairs. The report also notes a rising price in basketball sneakers, claiming that "50% of all basketball shoes sold were at price points over $100, compared to 35% in 2012."
