For anyone who wasn't had enough of "What are thooooose?!" yet, the phrase hit national TV last during the MTV VMAs.
In a Samsung commercial featuring A$AP Rocky, the Harlem rapper pauses toward the end to examine the footwear of the moonman statue, wondering to himself "What are those?" It's fairly plausible that Rocky himself is familiar with the phrase, but it feels even more likely that it was put in there by an eager copywriter on behalf of Samsung.
That corporations are co-opting the phrase seems like a pretty good indicator that it's time to put it to rest. At least it happened before a sneaker company created an official collab with the "What Are Those" creator.
