From October 8 to October 10, 1871, more than 2,000 acres of Chicago was wiped out by a conflagration known as the Great Chicago Fire. The blaze resulted in 300 deaths and the destruction of several landmark structures, and it left roughly a third of the city's population homeless. Despite being one of the largest US disasters of the19th century, the city-wide rebuild helped Chicago bounce back and become one of the most populous and economically sufficient cities in the country.
When adidas launched the new D Rose 3 signature shoe, we learned that each colorway would feature a tie-in to Derrick and his beloved home city. The "Electricity" Rose 3 pays homage to Chicago's resolve in coping with the destruction left behind by the historic fire.
One of the model's special edition releases, the "Great Chicago Fire" Rose 3 features an Electricity rubberized build with 3M reflective accents that mimic traditional firefighter rescue gear. Taking things a step further, a re-appropriated Chicago Fire Department logo appears on the backside of the left tongue in silver.
Look for the "Great Chicago Fire" Rose 3 to hit retail in limited quantities this week. Each pair will be packaged in a special white box with a custom shoe bag.
