adidas Ocean Waste 3D Printed Sneaker

Adidas is marrying recycled sneaker production with forward-thinking manufacturing techniques via this, the brand's latest partnership with environmental organization Parley for the Oceans.

Like the first adidas x Parley sneaker, this one consists of recycled ocean waste materials – the upper uses ocean plastic and the midsole recycled polyester and gillnets. As readers will notice, the silhouette here is basically the same as that of the adidas Futurecraft, all the way down to the 3D-printed midsole.

For now, the shoe is just a concept rather than a retail release. But, adidas executive board member and head of global brands Eric Liedtke is confident that it will lead the industry in a new direction.

"The 3D-printed ocean plastic shoe midsole stands for how we can set new industry standards if we start questioning the reason of what we create," Liedtke said. "We want to bring everyone from the industry to the table and create sustainable solutions for big global problems."
