adidas Losing Floor Space and Market Share to Nike in Europe

More signs of the the Three Stripes' struggle.

While much has been made recently about adidas' slipping to become the #3 sportswear brand in the U.S., the company is also hurting abroad.

In a recent Citi Research survey of European footwear retailers, more than 60 percent of respondents said that Nike is gaining overall market share. What's more, those respondents indicated adidas as the biggest loser of market share.

Connected to Nike's growing market share is the fact that European retailers are dedicating more floor space to the brand. A third of respondents from Citi Research's survey said that they've made more floor space for Nike products, and 70 percent of that group have increased the space for Swoosh products by more than 10 percent in the past year.

Nike's sales growth in Europe for the year ending in Q3 of 2015 were reported at 5.4 percent for footwear and just 0.6 percent for apparel.
