adidas & Los Angeles Clippers Unveil 'Back in Blue' Pride Uniform
words // Brandon Richard
At today's Media Day session, adidas and the Los Angeles Clippers unveiled new 'Back in Blue' short-sleeve pride uniforms that will be worn on Sunday home games throughout the 2013-2014 season. The uniforms will debut on-court on October 14 in a preseason game against the Denver Nuggets.
The 'Back in Blue' uniform features a light blue color for the first time since the team was based in San Diego in 1985. Light Blue has a rich history with the organization and has been part of the team's identity since they were the Buffalo Braves in the 1970s. The lightweight woven shorts feature three iconic nautical flags to represent each of the team's letters — LAC — representing the Los Angeles Clippers.
'Back in Blue' uniforms continue adidas and the NBA's commitment to providing players with the most innovative technology so they are comfortable and confident to perform at the highest level. The uniform is 23% lighter than the standard NBA uniform for optimum performance. Additional features include max ventilation for comfort and 360-degree stretch fabric for free motion and range.
The 'Back in Blue' jerseys will be available on October 14 at nbastore.com.
A "Clipper" is literally a ship.
Wrong. A clipper is literally the guy who takes your ticket, or, alternately, is an all-in-one transit "smart" card that you can load transit passes and....yeah. Or, possibly, a way of lighting a blunt or finally a way of shaving your head or beard. Whatever way you look at it, I'm afraid they got the symbolism all wrong here.

A contest decided on Clippers because the city was known for the great sailing ships that passed through San Diego Bay. When the Clippers moved to Los Angeles in 1984, they kept their nickname.
