adidas Drops Teyana Taylor
words // Brandon Richard
If you've been curious about the status of Teyana Taylor's partnership with adidas after her 'Dark Knight' GLC shoe failed to see its expected Black Friday launch, here's the news.
In a statement issued to Madame Noire, adidas has confirmed that they have officially parted ways with Teyana.
“We have ended our relationship with Teyana Taylor and do not have any upcoming product launches with her.”
When Madame Noire asked if the move was related to the online petition filed in regard to her spat with Rihanna, a rep added:
“All I can say is that adidas partners with athletes and artists who blend well with our brand values. We evaluate our relationships with partners based on the values we hold at adidas and we don’t condone violence of any kind.”
In other words, yes. If you happened to miss the September exchange between the two singers, it started when Rihanna posted an Instagram video that apparently mocked Teyana's singing. In response, Teyana went on an all-out verbal assault, even changing her Twitter background to a photo that included an image taken of Rihanna following her domestic incident with Chris Brown in 2009. The photo was quickly removed, but the damage had been done.
Rihanna is a friend of the adidas brand, particularly linked to the Originals category and designer Jeremy Scott.
Earlier this week, Teyana's rep denied rumors that Teyana had been dropped by adidas. We can confirm the opposite — she was dropped almost immediately after the incident. As of now, there has been no further comment by Teyana or her reps.
Back in February, Teyana and adidas Originals released the Harlem GLC, which officials said sold out faster than any adidas Originals shoe in history.
Any chance we see GOOD Music boss and new adidas designer Kanye West smooth this situation over?
