Today, Converse has announced the next installment of its ongoing collaboration with Finnish design house Marimekko. The Holiday 2011 Collection features some of Converse's most iconic silhouettes embellished with Marimekko's signature bold prints in festive holiday colors and styles.
Included in the new Marimekko x Converse Collection are fresh takes on classic designs, such as the Jack Purcell Helen, Chuck Taylor All Star and Chuck Taylor All Star PJ. The traditional and feminine styles are enhanced with Marimekko's recognizable prints, which add a bold splash of color and pattern to the silhouettes.
The prints chosen for the Holiday 2011 Collection include Marimekko classics and newer designs created by influential house designers Maija Isola and Maija Louekari. Marimekko's bright poppy flower Unikko print created by Maija Isola in 1964 appears in the collection in a new coloring by Maija's daughter Kristina Isola. Other Maija Isola prints include the 1965 Paprika pattern in a Purple/Cream colorway and 1966's Varpunen (sparrow) in a sophisticated Navy/Silver tone. Maija Louekari's Poni (pony) print in Black/Silver and Black/White colorways offers a graphic alternative in the collection, which is otherwise dominated by a tonal palette.
The Marimekko x Converse collection will be available nationwide and globally at premium retail outlets and online at www.converse.com beginning in October 2011. Retail on all pairs is $90.
