Puma continues to position itself as a major player in the basketball realm with the signing of New York Knicks rookie RJ Barrett.

The brand confirmed today that it has signed the third overall draft pick to a multi-year deal. To tease the announcement, Puma unveiled a "NY hearts RJ" mural with Barrett's face. The art was later updated with Puma's cat logo atop the heart, confirming reports of the deal.

Speculation over where Barrett would land has been swirling since the former Duke Blue Devil showed up to his rookie shoot wearing Pumas. His former teammate, Zion Williamson, had also teased wearing Puma in the lead-up to his signing with Jordan Brand in July.

Terms of Barrett's deal were not available as of publishing. Puma did not immediately respond to Sole Collector's request for comment.

UPDATE (08/29): Puma has officially confirmed its new multi-year deal with Barrett.

"We are thrilled to have RJ join the Puma family as we enter our second season of Puma Hoops," said Adam Petrick, Puma Global Director of Brand and Marketing. "He’s obviously an incredible talent and we’re proud that he’s bringing his bold personality to our brand. We’re especially pleased to have a young, game changing athlete in New York—the home of Walt 'Clyde' Frazier, and Puma Hoops. We look forward to a strong partnership with him and a fantastic rookie season ahead.”

To celebrate the signing, the Knicks rookie hit the streets of Manhattan and served up hot dogs and T-shirts to fans in attendance.
