It took quite a bit of work for Nike's new Air Max 720 tech to become a reality, so it's no surprise that the brand is making the most out of the cushioning by quickly bringing it to Jordan Brand's latest lifestyle offering.

With an upper that stays in line with Jordan's new Flight Utility range including shoes like the Apex-Utility and Proto-React, the just-unveiled Jordan Proto-Max 720 combines a ripstop-like textile build with an adjustable heel strap that allows for a custom fit. However, the key feature on this model is its Air Max 720 outsole, which represents one of Nike's latest cushioning breakthroughs.

Touching on the design process behind the 720 Air unit, Nike VP of Innovation Kathy Gomez told Sole Collector that there were several considerations along the way. “How big is too big? My team engineers think about this stuff. They know about how to draw this material out so it works. That was stressful for them," she said. "If it’s too big, it’s going to fail and not work. There’s also the aesthetic part of it. How does it look on the foot? It sort of all came together. We figured out how to engineer the system and draw the material. Then it just feels good on your foot, so it works."

Expect the Jordan Proto-Max 720 to release in 2019.
