Nike Flyknit technology made its debut during the 2012 Olympics in London. The knitting process has since been adapted to span multiple categories, providing many different silhouettes with light, sleek uppers. Now, Nike is introducing a new generation of its knit technology: Flyknit 360.
When creating uppers in the past for shoes like the Flyknit Racer, the knit was first created flat, then combined with a midsole to shape the shoe. New technology introduced will allow the knit to completely envelop the foot. According to the press release, an advancement in the process "allows for a shoe upper to be constructed in a complete 360-degree form that wraps the entire foot, helping athletes feel more secure and controlled during their movements."
The new tech is being introduced on the Mercurial Superfly 360 and Mercurial Vapor 360 cleats that release on Feb. 14. Nike Flyknit 360 construction isn't just for soccer either. According to the brand, it will begin appearing in footwear across other sports as well.
