The U.S. government scored a win in the fight against fake sneakers this holiday season, intercepting seven parcels of counterfeit Air Jordan sneakers at Washington Dulles International Airport in December, according to a brief from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The total value of the shoes, which came from China and were all headed for the same address in Alexandria, Virginia, was $54,715.

Customs officers confirmed with Nike that the sneakers were counterfeit.

"The theft of intellectual property and the trade in substandard and often dangerous goods threatens America’s innovation economy and consumer health and safety, and it generates proceeds that fund criminal activities and organized crime," said CBP Field Operations Director Casey Owen Durst.

According to the agency, the CBP seized $3.8 million worth of products with intellectual property rights violations in 2016.
