During Nike's 2017 investor day meeting the brand revealed that it was bringing back and updating its Shox cushioning system as a reaction to market trends. It officially unveiled the concept today with the introduction of the Shox Gravity.

According to the press release, the brand took the new model from concept to reality in just nine months thanks to its rapid prototyping capabilities. Designer Aaron Cooper also credits the experience of the team that worked on the project with allowing the expedited timeline to come to fruition. “We were able to make educated decisions based on digital or two-dimensional information that were able to push us a lot more quickly,” he said.

As for how this new iteration of Shox differs from those of the past, Nike VP of Footwear, Greg Thompson, explained the brand was "too obsessed" with the visual of the four Shox pucks. "We now know that the experience is what is most important," he explained. "We've created an amazing underfoot experience combined with great fit and containment in the upper. It definitely provides a more well-rounded experience than any of the previous models.”

There is no sneaker release date for the Nike Shox Gravity as of yet, but Nike says it will be dropping in 2018, and the colorway seen here won't be the only one—a whopping 25 different versions are planned for the silhouette.
