In October 1985, Michael Jordan broke his left foot, leaving his status for the 1985-86 season in doubt. To help Jordan rehabilitate, Nike created this custom version of the Air Jordan 1, equipped with straps to give him extra support. By season's end, Jordan was back on the court, lighting up the Celtics in the strapless version of the Jordan 1 most are familiar with.

The collectible Air Jordan 1 Strap Sample first hit the auction block in 2011, when an eBay user listed the never-before-seen pair for $25,000. That particular pair ended up being bought back by Nike and was recently seen in the brand's newly launched Air Jordan Collection online archive. Now, an unlikely second opportunity to secure this rare gem has presented itself, as another pair is listed for auction.

Heritage Auctions is making the pair available with an expected haul of more than $20,000. According to Heritage, the left shoe bears a faded inscription from Jordan himself: "To Trudy, Best Wishes, Michael Jordan."

Bidding is currently at $5,000 with an auction end date of Nov. 19. While Heritage set the floor at $20,000, it wouldn't be surprising to see these fetch a little more in today's market.
