The latest Air Jordan to surface is a timely pair with a social message. The above Air Jordan 1 "Black Lives Matter" was posted by Jordan Brand's Frank Cooke on Wednesday, and features a black-on-black colorway with a hashtagged strap.

Is this sneaker releasing at retail? There's no indication at the moment, but Cooke, who works in energy design for Jordan, often posts samples and one-offs that never make it to the public.

Jordan Brand has released Black History Month sneakers in the past, but has never expressly come out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Michael Jordan himself has become more willing to publicly discuss African-American causes in recent years, commenting on 2016 in the racial divide in America and protests in Charlotte, North Carolina.
