With a ballpoint pen and a sheet of glossy paper, designer Tinker Hatfield drew the shoe that kept Michael Jordan at Nike and changed the sneaker industry forever.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is auctioning off this one-of-a-kind drawing of the "True Blue" Air Jordan 3, signed and dated by Hatfield on June 11, 2017.
"The hand is more important than the object," Hatfield told Make-A-Wish. "The hand euphemistically is the creator. It's a statement that is ‘a little’ in opposition to the notion that the sneaker itself is such a marvel. Maybe the story behind it, and the skill to create something from scratch, is the marvel. It's a statement about the importance of collaboration - in this case with Michael Jordan. It's a PRO DESIGN statement.”
Hatfield's piece was inspired by 14-year old Andrew Woodruff, who wished to visit Nike campus, but unfortunately passed away shortly after his wish came true.
Bidding, currently north of $3,000, is open now on eBay.
