A terrible choice of words in a newsletter has forced Adidas to issue a public apology. On Tuesday, the brand sent out an email to customers with "Congrats, you survived the Boston Marathon!" as the subject line, the word "survive" obviously being an unfortunate one here given the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Adidas quickly posted an apology on social media, with the @AdidasUS handle sending out the below message.

"We are incredibly sorry," it reads. "Clearly, there was no thought given to the insensitive email subject line we sent Tuesday. We deeply apologize for our mistake. The Boston Marathon is one of the most inspirational sporting events in the world. Every year we're reminded of the hope and resiliency of the running community at this event."
