During his brief stint as a Washington Wizard, Michael Jordan took a young Richard "Rip" Hamilton under his wing ... somewhat.

As Hamilton tells the story, he asked Jordan to be part of his brand when they were teammates, but Jordan declined. "Hey Rip, my sneaker's for All-Stars," said Jordan according to Hamilton. Not to be deterred, Hamilton went on to become an All-Star and NBA champion as a member of the Detroit Pistons, and Jordan made good on his word by making him a Team Jordan athlete. Hamilton finished his career wearing Jordan sneakers, including some of the best Player Exclusives to date.

Perhaps the biggest individual achievement of Hamilton's career, his #32 jersey was retired by the Pistons during a ceremony at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Known for his relentless energy, efficient midrange game and famous mask, Hamilton thanked the people who contributed to his run in the motor city, including Jordan and Jordan Brand.

"I want to thank you guys, I want to thank MJ for always believing in me and taking the brand to the next level," said Hamilton. View the moment below.
