A key factor in the huge success of Nike Air, the brand's most beloved sneaker technology, has been visibility. The cushioning had been around since 1977 when inventor Frank Rudy brought it to the brand, but 1987's Air Max model first exposed it, using a see-through window on the midsole that communicated to consumers exactly what they were running on. Ironically, the processes behind the production of Nike Air have largely been invisible—until now.

In anticipation of Air Max day and the coming debut of the Air VaporMax, Nike's released the above video that goes inside its Air Manufacturing Innovation building, one of the two American factories where Air units are produced.

While it's hard not to want for a more detailed breakdown of the manufacturing process, the clip still provides an inside look at an important footwear site that's never really been seen by the general public before.

According to Nike, all of the futuristic units used in the VaporMax will be built at this facility, which is located nearby its Beaverton, Oregon, world headquarters.
