The wait is almost over for the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0, the first commercially available self-lacing sneaker from the sportswear brand unveiled at its 2016 innovation summit. The story of the shoe's painstaking design process is told in the latest cover story from Wired. The in-depth piece provides a rare look inside Nike's famed Innovation Kitchen where its next wave of sportswear development takes place, insights from designers Tinker Hatfield and Tiffany Beers, and more.

In addition to the details on the shoe laid out in the Wired cover story, Nike has confirmed with Sole Collector that appointments to experience and purchase the HyperAdapt will begin on Nov. 28. Nike is set to announce details on how to schedule one of these appointments in the coming weeks. One assumes that appointments will be scheduled through its new Nike+ app, a platform the brand has been pushing heavily since its August launch.

Pricing information on the HyperAdapt, which will no doubt be an expensive pair given the tech and innovation crammed into it, is not available yet.

While the update on the HyperAdapt is appreciated, it's hard to read the Wired piece and not feel Nike's swerving around the issue of its promised release of the Nike Mag, Marty McFly's Back to the Future sneaker that was supposed to release in the spring of 2016. Nike has provided little information on that self-lacing shoe's return since last touting it in late 2015.
