It's a special week in the West-Kardashian household, as little North West celebrates her third birthday today, just ahead of Father's Day for Kanye West. Among the many gifts each will surely be receiving this week are pair of custom sneakers directly from the hands of the biggest name in the game.
Dan "Mache" Gamache, who has previously customized sneakers for the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Eminem to name a few, recently reworked two pairs of adidas — one for Kanye and one for North. For the birthday girl, a pair of Superstars in pink, white and gold, painted with compasses pointing toward north on the right shoe and west on the left shoe. Her father is the recipient of a half-uncaged Ultra Boost in forest green, embroidered with orange Pablo-style "Kanye West" lettering.
Also included with each pair is a tamper-proof tag from San Francisco-based technology company Chronicled, which aims to tackle the high-quality counterfeit sneaker market by attaching wearable sensors called "Smart Tags" to authentic pairs. The tags contain small chips with unforgeable product profiles that brands and customers can use to register pieces of information. Ideally, the smart phone scan technology will guarantee authenticity in the near future.
“Technology is moving fast. Someday soon you'll be able to run a legit check on all your new sneakers with two taps on your iPhone," said Gamache. "Chronicled, or something like it, is definitely the future of this industry. The days of rampant, undetectable sneaker counterfeiting are numbered.”
