Adidas Will Start Making Shoes in Germany Again (With Robots)

Brand opening new factory in 2017.

Adidas is on track to open up a sneaker factory in Germany where robots will produce shoes by 2017, Reuters reports.

The center, located in the German town of Ansbach, will be the first of the brand's Speedfactories, which it aim to quickly deliver product and allow the brand to better react to trends.

According to adidas CEO Herbert Hainer, the brand's Speedfactories will produce at least a million pairs of sneakers annually in total within a few years. 

Adidas exec Eric Liedtke laid out these plans in an interview with Sole Collectorin 2015.

Adidas closed its last German shoe factory in 1993.
