Flashback // Barry Sanders Wears Nike Air Zoom Turf With Air Jordan 11 Sole

Sanders has two of his most productive seasons in a unique version of his Nike shoe.

words // Brandon Richard

Among many other things, Barry Sanders is known as the most elusive running back of all-time. Between 1996 and 1997, Sanders enjoyed two of his most productive years in the league, including a 2053-yard '97 campaign with a 128.3 per game average. In those seasons, Sanders did most of his damage in the Nike Air Zoom Turf, wearing both cleated and turf versions as he raced into the record books.

One of the Air Zoom Turf variations Sanders wore on the field was supported by an Air Jordan 11 sole. At the time, players enjoyed the way the sole performed on artificial turf and it was fairly common to see the model itself on the field. Eastbay actually sold the Air Zoom Turf with the 11 sole (in addition to the standard version), so you'll see older pairs and samples pop up on the auction block from time to time.

The Air Zoom Turf is a classic in its own right, but would it be cool to see Nike retro the model with the Air Jordan 11 sole? Check out a few vintage shots below and let us know what you think.
