Michael returns to the game as a Wizard wearing the jazz-inspired model in 2001.

Putting somewhat of a damper on his picture-perfect storybook ending in Chicago, Michael Jordan announced another NBA comeback on September 25, 2001 — this time with the Washington Wizards. Jordan indicated that he'd be donating his entire player salary to a relief effort for the victims of the September 11 attacks.

In an injury-plagued season, MJ led the Wizards in scoring (22.9 ppg), assists (5.2 apg) and steals (1.42 spg). However, torn cartilage in his right knee ended his season after only 60 games.

For the first season of his Washington comeback, Michael laced up the Air Jordan XVII, today's XX8 Days of Flight shoe. Setting the new standard for premium performance footwear, the jazz-inspired model came along with a metal briefcase, CD-Rom and a then controversial $200 price tag. Features included Tuned Air, a TPU heel stabilizer and a full-length shank plate. Paying tribute to Michael's second retirement, the outsole was designed after a golf course.

Below, a look at the XVII in the celebratory black and neon XX8 Days of Flight colorway.
