It’s amazing that it took until his fourth year for Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz to be recognized as an All-Star, since he has been playing at that level since his second year in the league.
Playing in Utah, not many people get to see him on a nightly basis, and that somewhat takes away from what he does and how he’s viewed in the eyes of casual fans. But, as he proved in his lone visit to Chicago this season, a 28 point and 17 assist night capped with a highlight dunk over Derrick Rose, when you’re discussing the best in the game, regardless of position, his name warrants mentioning.
After the Jazz’s triumphant 132-108 win over the Bulls, I managed to ask D. Will about his change in footwear recently and the shoes he grew up loving most.
First off, why the switch to the Hyperdunk Lows?
Nike always gives me stuff. They tell me what they want me in and I check them out to see if I like them. If I do, I rock them.
What model have you liked the best this season?
I like the Hyperdunk Lows the best. They’re so much lighter. So much lighter than the Sharkalaids. I like the Sharkalaids too, with their stability, but the Hyperdunk are so much lighter, and they got more freedom to them.
So, you’re pretty much in these until the playoffs?
Yeah, those are my shoes until the playoffs, then I’ll make a switch around playoff time.
Any idea of what you’re going to wear come playoff time?
I’m not sure yet.
A lot of people don’t get to see you play as much, so how does having your shoes being sold in House of Hoops to fans and kids feel to you?
It feels good. It’s something you always dream of when you’re growing up, to have your shoe being in a store. I don’t essentially have my own shoe, but I’m getting there.
What would it mean to one day have your own signature shoe like your good friend Chris Paul?
It would mean a lot. The shoe game has changed a lot since back in the day. Not as many people are getting shoes nowadays. Especially with Jordan out there, so it’s tough. I’m not too worried about it. Nike does great things for me, putting me in a lot of ads and commercials, so I’m happy.
Coming up, who were you big on that had their own shoe?
Of course Jordan, and Jason Kidd. I always had a pair of J Kidd’s on.

Great interview, he really deserves the attention, he’s at least as good as CP3(as he proves every time they go head-2-head), and he’s making the HD lo’s look good.
I’m a HUGE D-Will fan, much more than of CP3. Great guy, great game, great shoes! And again, great interview, Chris!
With the allstar game & that dunk over Rose when they faced the Bulls, I couldn’t help but be impressed with his athletism more lately. He has got hops as well as all his other attributes. He is one of my favorite players. I thought earlier this season he was really making the sharkalaids look good.
i hope some of his hyperdunk lows come out in HoH
those blue ones he wore in the skills challenge are awsome
You see that bothers me. Deron Williams is way better than Chris Paul and he should definitely be the next guy on nike to get his own shoe.
his tattoo looks like a big bruise
I really like the HD lows, but I just cant get myself to buy a pair…..ZKIV and ZKVs killed the Hyperdunk Low
High cut HDs are still good to go, unfortunately the lows are a no go.
Uncle Ati T, I thought like that also, but not everyone wants to wear those Kobe’s.
This guy always has awesome heat on his feet, and always it’s some nice PE’s,
he really knows to make a nice shoe!
D-Will deserves a shoe, he’s so underrated and I don’t understand why. He’s way better than Cp3 in my opinion. He wrecks on cp3 every time they play. Jordan needs to drop cp3 and pick up D-will. That’s some knowledge for ya.
Put this man in a pair pf zkv’s!
I would really like to see a Kobe V vs Hyperdunk Low review. And throw the Cradle Rock Lows in there , too.
Let’s not get crazy here – CP3 is a really good player. There isn’t a PG playing that is ‘WAY’ better than him.
Saying that, I love Deron’s game. Just really the complete package. He runs the offense with such efficiency – and at the same time, I’d trust him to take and make a game winner.
Its interesting to see guards slowly convert to lows.
Nice read, not a huge D-Will fan but his PE Hyperdunk lows are niiiiceeeee
