As one of the go-to spots in Washington DC for both skateboarders and sneakerheads alike, Palace 5ive has been hooking it up in DC for a number of years now. As a retailer, maintaining a balance that keeps both the skateboard community and the sneakerhead community, can be quite a challenge. Although there is some overlap of the two, the purists of each can often be the most particular, and the most vocal, meaning they like to influence others in the community with their opinion. Palace 5ive keeps a balance by essentially having two stores in one.
Palace 5ive recently teamed up with Vans to create a sneaker that epitomizes their approach to maintaining the balancing act. They chose the undeniably classic skate shoe, the Sk8 Hi, but not just the original Sk8 Hi, the more enhanced for skate duty Vert Pro edition. Rather then kick-pushing their way completely into the skateboard community with this release, they took the SK8 Hi and tied in the ballistic nylon material that is reminiscent of the Vans Syndicate release of a few years back. With the Syndicate feel giving these kicks some collector interest, the Palace 5ive team decided that a limited number would ensure none are left behind. 200 pairs in all will be available in store, as well as the Palace 5ive website this Saturday, December 12th.
