Nike Cortez Year of The Tiger

In the coming months as the calendar turns over to February 14th, the Chinese culture will celebrate their own New Year’s  which this year sees the calendar turn over to the Year of the Tiger. As has been the case in recent years, Nike has created a special makeup of one of their classic sneakers, this time choosing the Cortez.

Using the somewhat mythical white tiger for inspiration Nike Sportswear has created an accurate representation of the tiger using a mix of materials such as pony hair and leather. Though the colorway is mostly white, depth has been added to panels such as the lacestays, front toe box, heel tab and Swoosh, thanks to the creatvie use of pony hair. The underlying side panel features a faint stripe pattern representing the stripes found on tigers. Additional details, like the Chinese character for tiger has been embossed on the tongue, and the date of the new year imprinted on the insole give just the right touches for celebrating the coming Year of the Tiger. Look for these at select Nike Sportswear accounts in the coming months.
